Rogue River Dam Removed, More to Follow
After years of court battles, Savage Rapids Dam on the Rogue River in Grants Pass, Oregon, was demolished because of the devastation it caused to endangered species. Now salmon and steelhead can return to their historic spawning grounds for the first time in 88 years. Environment groups have been advocating against the construction of dams, and the subsequent threat to biodiversity and ecosystem health, for decades.
